What We Install

Most installation calls are one fixture in one visit. Bring your own fixture or have us source it — either way, the connections, valves and drain work are ours to get right.

Plumber setting a new toilet onto a wax ring in a Toronto bathroom

Toilets & Bidets

Standard, comfort-height, dual-flush and one-piece toilets, plus bidet seats and attachments. We replace the wax ring or seal, the supply line and — if it's seized — the shut-off valve, then check the flange so the new toilet doesn't rock or leak at the base.

Plumber tightening a new brushed-nickel faucet on a quartz bathroom vanity in Toronto

Kitchen & Bathroom Faucets

Single-handle, two-handle, pull-down, wall-mounted and touchless faucets for kitchens, vanities, laundry and bar sinks. Old, corroded shut-offs are the most common surprise — we tell you before we replace them, not after.

Plumber connecting a new chrome P-trap under a bathroom vanity sink in a Toronto home

Sinks & Vanities

Drop-in, undermount and farmhouse kitchen sinks, and bathroom vanity sinks — including the trap, tailpiece and drain connection, so the new sink drains properly and doesn't gurgle.

Plumber connecting the water supply and drain hose for a new dishwasher under a kitchen sink

Dishwashers & Fridge Water Lines

Water supply, shut-off valve and drain hookup for built-in dishwashers, with a high loop or air gap so dirty sink water can't siphon back into the machine. We also run refrigerator water lines for ice makers and water dispensers.

Plumber connecting washer hoses to a new recessed washer box beside a laundry sink

Laundry Hookups & Laundry Sinks

Washing machine supply valves and standpipe drains, utility and laundry sink installs, and burst-resistant braided supply hoses — the cheapest insurance against one of the most common basement floods.

New pressure-balancing shower valve installed on copper and PEX lines inside an open bathroom wall

Shower & Tub Valves

Replacement shower and tub valves, including pressure-balancing and thermostatic valves that stop the scald-then-freeze swing when someone flushes a toilet. We also install tub spouts, shower heads and hand showers.

Plumber connecting new copper water lines to a new tank water heater in a Toronto basement

Water Heaters

Tank and tankless water heater installation, with removal and disposal of the old unit. Compare options and sizing on our water heater service page.

Plumber connecting a new sump pump with a check valve and battery backup in a Toronto basement

Sump Pumps & Backwater Valves

New sump pits, pump replacements, battery backups and backwater valves — the work covered by Toronto's basement flooding subsidy. See our sump pump installation guide and backwater valve guide.

Plumber installing a new frost-free outdoor tap on the brick wall of a Toronto house

Shut-Off Valves & Outdoor Taps

Main water shut-off replacement, fixture shut-offs that actually close, and frost-free outdoor hose bibs that won't split in a Toronto January. Not sure where your main shut-off is? Here's how to find it.

Dishwasher, Fridge Water Line & Bidet Installation

These are three of the installs Toronto homeowners ask us about most, and each one has a step that is easy to get wrong.

Dishwasher installation

We connect the hot water supply through its own shut-off valve, connect the drain hose to the sink drain or garbage disposal with a high loop or air gap, then level the machine and fasten it to the counter so it does not tip when the door opens. If the new dishwasher needs a new outlet or circuit, that part is electrical work; tell us when you book and we will plan the job around it.

Fridge water line installation

For an ice maker or water dispenser, we tap a cold water line with a proper shut-off valve and run a new line to the fridge. We avoid self-piercing saddle valves, a common cause of slow leaks that damage the floor behind a fridge. The line is leak-tested before the fridge is pushed back, with enough slack left to pull it out for cleaning.

Bidet installation

Bidet seats and attachments connect to the toilet's cold supply with a T-valve, so the toilet and bidet share one shut-off. Electric seats with warm water or a dryer need a GFCI outlet within reach of the toilet; if there is none, an electrician adds it first. A stand-alone bidet fixture needs its own supply and drain, so it counts as new plumbing and usually needs a permit.

What Does Plumbing Installation Cost in Toronto?

These are the same ranges we publish in our Toronto plumber cost guide. Your written flat-rate quote is agreed before we start — the number on the quote is the number on the invoice.

InstallationTypical Toronto price (installed)
Toilet replacement (remove old, new seal and supply line, install)$350–$600
Kitchen or bathroom faucet$150–$350
Seized or corroded shut-off valve replaced at the same visitadd $100–$200
40–50 gallon tank water heater (incl. removal of old unit)$1,200–$2,200
Tankless water heater$2,500–$4,500
Sump pump — new pit, basin, pump and discharge line$1,200–$3,500
Sump pump battery backup (added to an install)$400–$800
Backwater valve (before the City subsidy)$1,500–$3,500

What moves the price: whether shut-off valves work, access (finished ceilings, tight vanities), old or non-standard pipe that needs adapting, and whether the job moves or adds a drain — which can also mean a permit. Dishwashers, sinks, laundry hookups and shower valves are quoted per job after a quick look or a photo.

What's Included in Every Installation

Do You Need a Permit for Plumbing Installation in Toronto?

Usually no permit

  • Replacing a toilet, faucet or sink in the same spot
  • Swapping a fixture like-for-like with no new piping
  • Replacing supply lines and shut-off valves

Usually needs a permit

  • Adding a new bathroom, sink or drain
  • Moving a fixture to a new location
  • Changing drain or vent piping (for example, a wall-hung toilet)
  • Installing a backwater valve — the City requires a building permit

The rule of thumb: if the pipes stay where they are, it's a replacement; if the pipes change, it's new plumbing. When a job needs a permit, we tell you in the quote and arrange it — so the work passes inspection and doesn't cause trouble when you sell or make an insurance claim.

Toronto Basement Flooding Subsidy: Up to $6,650

If you own a single-family home, duplex, triplex or fourplex in Toronto, the City's Basement Flooding Protection Subsidy Program pays up to 80% of the invoiced cost of flood-protection work completed on or after November 12, 2025:

Apply within two years of the work being done. The City requires the work to be done by a licensed contractor holding a valid City of Toronto business licence, and a building permit for backwater valves — check both before you book with anyone. Full details are on the City of Toronto website.

Supplying Your Own Fixture?

That's fine — we're happy to install a fixture you've already bought. Three things save you a second visit: check the rough-in measurement before buying a toilet (most Toronto homes are 12 inches from the wall), buy a faucet that matches the number of holes in your sink or counter, and keep the receipt in case the fixture arrives damaged or with missing parts. If you'd rather we source it, we'll quote the fixture and installation together.

Why Toronto Homeowners Choose ED Plumbing for Installation

Frequently Asked Questions — Plumbing Installation in Toronto

How much does it cost to install a toilet in Toronto?
A full toilet replacement — removing the old toilet, a new wax ring or seal and supply line, and installing the new unit — typically runs $350–$600 in Toronto. Add $100–$200 if the shut-off valve is seized and needs replacing. You get the exact price in writing before we start.
Do I need a permit to replace a toilet or faucet in Toronto?
Not for a like-for-like replacement in the same location with no piping changes. Adding a new fixture, moving one, or changing drain and vent piping usually needs a permit, and a backwater valve always needs a building permit. We tell you in the quote if your job needs one and arrange it.
Can I buy my own fixture and have you install it?
Yes, we're happy to install a fixture you've bought. Check the toilet rough-in (usually 12 inches in Toronto homes) and the number of faucet holes before you buy, and keep the receipt. The fixture itself is covered by the manufacturer's warranty.
How long does a plumbing installation take?
Most single-fixture installs — a toilet, faucet or dishwasher hookup — are finished in one visit, often in a couple of hours. Water heaters and sump pumps take longer, and anything that needs new piping or a permit is scheduled in stages. Your quote includes the expected timing.
Do you install dishwashers and washing machine hookups?
Yes. We connect the water supply, add or replace the shut-off valve, and connect the drain with a high loop or air gap so waste water can't flow back into the appliance. For washing machines we install the supply valves, braided hoses and standpipe drain.
Can a plumber install a fridge water line?
Yes. We tap a cold water line with a proper shut-off valve, run the line to the fridge for the ice maker or water dispenser, and leak-test it before the fridge goes back. We avoid self-piercing saddle valves, which are a common cause of slow leaks behind fridges.
Can a plumber install a bidet?
Yes. A bidet seat or attachment connects to the toilet cold supply with a T-valve. Electric seats with warm water need a GFCI outlet near the toilet, which an electrician adds if there is none. A stand-alone bidet fixture needs its own supply and drain, so it is new plumbing and usually needs a permit.
